Telstra finally joins the party...
… with price plans too! Telstra will begin selling the iPhone 3G on July 11, joining Optus and Vodafone.
On a 24-month contract from $30, the 8G iPhone will be available from Telstra for an upfront cost of $279, or $399 for the 16GB version. On plans above $80 a month, there’s no upfront charge for the phones. Like the other carriers, more details will be released closer to launch date.
For me right now though, Telstra’s the winner. The Next G network is Australia’s largest and fastest national mobile network, and the ability to offer free WiFi access in all its hotspots (which include McDonald’s and Starbucks outlets as well as Qantas lounges) is pure bliss for iPhone users.
Eventually though, it’ll still come down to pricing. Let’s see what Optus or Vodafone can come up with.
